Kickoff volunteers bring books and encouraging words to students

By Polly O’Brien Morrow

For the second year in a row, PB Kickoff attendees helped students start the year off with the gift of reading. Through our partnership with Reading Is Fundamental (RIF), new books were provided to local students, accompanied by encouraging notes on bookmarks.

Events were held in Destin, Florida; Miami, Florida; Orlando, Florida; and Stamford, Connecticut.

Through a grant from the Pitney Bowes Foundation, a total of 1,280 books and digital resources were given to 640 students along with inspiring notes from our employee volunteers on bookmarks. All children received a copy of Click Clack Moo: Cows that Type, a second RIF book and an animal mask to assemble and play with.

For 53 years, RIF has worked to ensure that every child has the opportunity to read and succeed and has done so by distributing more than 416 million books to 50 million children in all 50 states and Puerto Rico.

“The impact we have had over the last five decades would be hard to achieve without the more than one million volunteers and hundreds of local and national corporate partners who have made a commitment to children’s literacy in the communities they serve. Our partnership with Pitney Bowes Foundation allows RIF to reach more children with access to new books,” said Bryan Klopack, Vice President of Development, RIF.

“Since 2004, we have supported RIF’s important mission to bring quality books to children in need. Through our employees’ generous involvement, these efforts are furthered strengthened, building a solid foundation for learning.” said Kathleen Ryan Mufson, Director, Global Corporate Citizenship & Philanthropy, President, Pitney Bowes Foundation.
